Underground Teachers

Julie began practicing yoga when her family was young, looking for a way to offset stiff muscles and to calm her pitta mind. She earned her 200 hour RYT certification in 2013 and is in pursuit of her 500 hour certification. Knowing that the benefits of yoga can't be duplicated in any other form of exercise, Julie crafts her playlists to share her love of music with movement. She realizes that often the most difficult part of the practice is getting to the studio and wants her students to experience the surprise element of realizing how good they can feel through yoga.

Nesrin began her yoga practice as a way to find self healing and flexibility, but quickly discovered that it took her far beyond the physical body. Originally from Israel, Nesrin realized, from the enchanted place on her mat, that she found her way back home. Earning 200 hour RYT in 2017, she began to find her voice as the practice lead her beyond the physical. The Arabic meaning of Abu ata(her last name), is giving and generosity, as is Nesrin's intention to generously give her students ways to experience abundance in breath, movement, silence, or dance.

Katy began her yoga practice to find stress relief and 'me time'. After her first class, with a dear friend, Katy found herself hooked and realized the peace she felt on her mat expanded into daily life. In addition, she found balance and tranquility easing her autoimmune conditions. In 2018 she felt called to guide classes at Underground Yoga and earned her 200 hour RYT. Katy invites her students to kick off their shoes and wear clothes that stretch and move in order to unwind and learn how breath and meditation, through physical flow, can soften thoughts, even during beginning practices when students may feel uneasy.

200 hour RYT and SOAR (Success Over Addiction & Relapse) Yoga Certified, Angela asks that her students don't force poses beyond their ability and to come to the mat to practice and accept. She encourages students to listen and respect their bodies, leaving behind negative, self-critical talk. Through open-mindedness and self-care on the mat, Angela's students realize that every 'body' is perfect for yoga and that even relaxing and shutting out thoughts in savanna is hard work.
